I have been doing some preliminary scoping out for potential living options in Seattle. I am not quite sure which neighborhood I want to be in, but I have been looking a lot in the Capitol Hill area mostly because it is close to school. When I was thinking about my budget and from my limited knowledge of the area, I had budgeted about $900 to rent a one bedroom apartment. What I have learned is that $900 can get you a decent studio if you are lucky. However, if you want to live in more than a closet, well then you have to be prepared to shell out at least $1100. From searching for things that have items that I would like which are mainly close proximity to school, public transportation, good natural light, and walking distance to restaurants and shops, I have discovered that I am looking at a high end market. This means that I need to either pay more for those things or start to compromise. At this point, I am imagining that I will be stressed out from school and would like to spend as little time in route as possible. I would also like to splurge on having a place that feels like a sanctuary or home instead of just paying for someplace to sleep. Good quality of life is priceless. That is until I look at my checking account and/or credit card balance.
