Start and End
I am definitely taking a road trip in August. It will either be to my new home or just a vacation before I begin law school. I am really hoping for the latter, but I am working on being content with the former. Either way, I hope to see some of my friends across the country. Jill is going to accompany me on the last part of the drive from Flagstaff, AZ to Seattle, WA. Along the way, we are going to go to some towns in CA. We both definitely want to stay a night in Portland, OR. I am having trouble figuring out which places to see in CA. I just now where I am going to end up and the last stop before getting there.
I have also figured out the beginning of the route. My first stop will of course be Atlanta. Since I will have short time and many peeps to see, Gaby said that I could host a party at her place. This sounds divine. From there I am going to hit NOLA where I hope to visit ErinB (who I still need to check with) and Verne. From there, I will be venturing through Texas and then to NM on my way to see Jill. I am not sure of that exact path.
There does seem to be some symbolism in knowing the start and the end of my journey. Although, I know that either one of those things could change and I am actually hoping for a different end point.
Thursday Thirteen: Second Edition
Last time I did this, I made the mistake of posting on Friday instead of Thursday. Now I think that I have figured it out. Although, maybe I will discover something else I did wrong when I look closer at popscholar list.
To review the rules: 13 random facts about YOU! The quirkier and the funnier, the better. Go for novel tidbits. It'll be more interesting that way.
Feel free to play along either in the comments or on your blog.
Now take two for me:
1. Yesterday, I was so happy to be walking around the grocery store, I purchased a bag of chocolate kisses.
2. As part of a mental piece offering to my co-workers, I put them by the printer for people to share.
3. The bag is already almost a third gone.
4. Lately, I have been craving and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
5. Today in physical therapy, I found out that I need to start walking without ANY crutch.
6. This means that I will be a booty lady.
7. I will take being a booty lady over a one crutch wonder any day.
8. My favorite would be to be able to walk without pain using both feet.
9. I know that my addiction to Alias has been resurrected because I watched four episodes in a row one day last week.
10. That is about 3 hours of television.
11. I got impatient with netflix to send me the next disc.
12. One of my favorite discoveries since having surgery, has been netflix.
13. I have less than 40 pages to read of Middlemarch, but that still feels like too much!
Back to the Spreadsheet
I have been doing some preliminary scoping out for potential living options in Seattle. I am not quite sure which neighborhood I want to be in, but I have been looking a lot in the Capitol Hill area mostly because it is close to school. When I was thinking about my budget and from my limited knowledge of the area, I had budgeted about $900 to rent a one bedroom apartment. What I have learned is that $900 can get you a decent studio if you are lucky. However, if you want to live in more than a closet, well then you have to be prepared to shell out at least $1100. From searching for things that have items that I would like which are mainly close proximity to school, public transportation, good natural light, and walking distance to restaurants and shops, I have discovered that I am looking at a high end market. This means that I need to either pay more for those things or start to compromise. At this point, I am imagining that I will be stressed out from school and would like to spend as little time in route as possible. I would also like to splurge on having a place that feels like a sanctuary or home instead of just paying for someplace to sleep. Good quality of life is priceless. That is until I look at my checking account and/or credit card balance.
