Billy Jean is Not My Lover
Happy Halloween! I am so impressed with how much sugar and chocolate put me in a good mood. I just finished eating lunch on campus and I am loving the soundtrack. Earlier it was some Indigo Girls and now I am listening to Michael Jackson. My classes finished for today and I have a few hours in which I can complete school work or relax before going to my on campus job. Since I was delinquent in posting yesterday, I will try to make my list here a bit longer.
1. Remembering the words to "The Way You Make Me Feel" and feeling excited by the idea of going dancing.
2. Hearing the Indigo Girls and realizing that I miss their music.
3. Having a good discussion with my Torts professor about concrete ways to become more courageous in speaking up in class and in the general world.
4. Exchanging thought provoking e-mails with some of my school pals about racist bullshit and then talking with the professor in whose class the incident occurred.
5. Having this e-mail exchange with one of my classmates: Her-- "No one is as hot as you with your sexy limp." Me--"That is why they call me BOOTy-liscious."
6. Managing to stand up and speak in front of my classmates without fainting.
7. Eating lunch with my friend the self described "hot gay guy" who consistently makes me laugh.
8. Even though the temperature is dropping rapidly, I am glad that the sunshine is still sticking around.
9. Seeing the guy that I spit water on a few nights ago and having it not be awkward.
10. Deciding that if I got called on, I would say, "My name is Joe and I don't know."
11. Feeling glad that I did not get called on :)
12. Getting the following advice from Dude when asking for help with being motivated to study, "Just take a shot between studying for each subject."
13. Since I do not have a headache this morning, I am glad that I did not follow his advice.
14. Only two days before my physical therapy appointment.
What Do You Do With An Extra Hour?
I have really enjoyed the feeling of having an extra hour with the time change. There was something wonderfully satisfying about getting up and being surprised with the hour. I also did a lot of laundry and some grocery shopping. This week, I am determined to start bringing my lunch to school. It will certainly help in the dollar department for me to not buy my lunch every day and help in the health department to not wait until 3 or 4pm to eat every day.
1. Enjoying an extra hour of sleep.
2. After assembling my the lamps to go in my night stand, reading a few pages of cooking light before going to sleep.
3. Replacing the lampshades on two lamps I had brought with me from Durham.
4. Laughing at myself because I only had two things on my shopping list for the grocery store and I managed to buy a whole cart full of things.
5. Returning to school again on a Sunday and feeling glad that I did not (so far) run into my annoying classmates.
Cowboy Take Me Away
Today I woke up at 10am which is early for me on the weekend. Since I have been having such trouble sleeping during the week, I have taken to hibernating on the weekends. Sometimes I wake up with the sunset and other times I wake up in time for lunch. Other times, I find myself waking up in time for an early supper. I try to listen to my body and go with the flow. However, I am keenly aware that my finals begin in five weeks and that on this particular weekend, I need to be preparing for a practice exam that will take place on Monday. I met the woman upstairs at the school library and we powered through a full day of studying. It felt nice to take the night away from schoolwork to assemble two lamps I had purchased from IKEA and watch some television. As I was flipping through the channels, I came across a "storyteller" special on VH1. This is where musicians perform live shows and tell the stories behind their songs. I was so excited to realize that the Dixie Chicks were telling their story; the song they are performing right now is "Cowboy Take Me Away." Their songs are so rich and as I learn the stories behind the tunes, I like them even more.
The gifts go on:
1. Having a productive study session.
2. Laughing hard with my study buddies and believing them when they said that we would kick ass.
3. Finally unpacking the suitcase from the Las Vegas trip. My mom was nice enough to pack it for me and I did not realize that she had sent me various treats.
4. Even though it was cold today, I enjoyed the sunshine.
5. Listening to the Dixie Chicks in the background and deciding that I really like the sound of laughter.
