How the Office Makes Your Mind Dirty
I have been watching Season Three of the Office. One of the boss's catch phrases is, "That's what she said." I did not think it was very funny, but the line comes into my head at the most random times. For instance, I thought of that phrase several times during the morning exercise class. I cannot imagine what else you would think after hearing these lines:
- This rubber hurts.
- I need it to be tighter.
- You need to work on your form.
- Am I rotating properly.
- Feel the burn.
- Bring your arm all the way back.
- You should feel a nice stretch.
- It should feel good.
- You really look tone.
The Things I Do For Support
In order to make my workout experiences less painful, today I went on a quest to find a good sports bra and more exercise pants. There is something particularly painful about learning the indeed your boobs are shrinking. I wanted to get fitted "just in case" my bra size had changed and sure enough I am now a cup size smaller; this made me weep a little bit on the inside. For this shopping excursion, I had a specific strategy in mind. First, I had written down the bra that Sandi recommended. (Thanks again Sandi!) Second, I wore won of the old bras from which my boobs had managed to escape.
When I was alone with the potential new bras in the fitting room, I did jumping jacks in my old bra. Then, I took off old bra and did jumping jacks with no support. Finally, I tried on potential new bras and did jumping jacks. It was my most scientific shopping excursion yet. Fortunately, I found TWO styles that worked for me! I was thrilled to be able to jump without fear of bruising my chin. As an added bonus, I found some great workout pants. Hopefully, next week's workouts will go much better now that I have better equipment.
My First Successful Event
Yesterday, the first event I planned in law school took place. This was a panel on religion and reproductive justice. I had gotten in touch with panelists, ordered food, and moderated. I was VERY nervous about how things would go; much to my delight, there was good turnout, the food was yummy, and the panelists were brilliant. I am glad to have this undertaking complete. Now, I just need to get through two more big events before the semester finishes. I have been struggling a lot to figure out how to balance everything. My scheduling efforts have been undermined by a strong, burning, and irresistible desire to nap. When I feel overwhelmed, I also have a tendency to want to sleep. The task list just seems to grow and grow.
One of my favorite quotes from the panel yesterday was from the Chaplain of Planned Parenthood: "I believe everyone is on a spiritual journey. It may not lead you to church, but everyone is on one. As part of that journey, your goal should be justice." In law school, I often feel very lost and then there are nuggets of truth which come through. Thankfully, I got one yesterday in the midst of a crazy time.
