New Family Dynamic

Partner and I attended a party that night for my sister-in-law and her fiance.  The party itself was crazy in a good way.  I met a lot of people and got sympathy for taking the bar and feeling anxious about my professional future.  We ate a lot of good food.  I also discovered that there is a whole world of "Aunties" and "Uncles" who are very boisterous and naughty which results in many funny moments.

Before going to the party I had to get dressed.  I know that is not particularly earth shattering or profound,  but I had to dress up which causes a lot of anxiety for me.   I do not wear make-up on a regular basis; I still have not figured out how to put it on myself.  I also cannot wear a lot of shoes because of my foot problems.   I also have a hard time accessorizing with jewelry. Those three things makes it challenging to dress up for a fancy party.

I am trying to become more confident, so I was determined to try the make-up and accessories.  Plus, I figured that Partner and my father-in-law (Appa) could help me.   I grew up in a household where my father and brother were vocal and pretty helpful in making sure that my mom and I did not leave the house looking hideous.  I, incorrectly it turns out, assumed that Partner and Appa would be able to do the same.  Unfortunately and quite comically, they were not much help.

We had a few comical exchanges which resulted in laughter and bringing us closer.  Here are a few such moments.

I asked Partner how my make-up looked.  He said, "It looks like you have a black eye.  If that is the fashion, I guess it is okay."

When I was trying to get input on which bangles to wear, Appa said, "I have no idea of these things. You look nice as is."

Parter said, "Daddy you just have to make a decision with confidence even if you have no idea.  Otherwise, this will never end."

Appa said, "If that is the case, these bangles are the same color as your outfit, go with that and relax."

To their credit both Partner and Appa said that I looked nice without make-up and jewelry.  Appa even told me that what is in my heart is more important than what I have on; I do agree with that sentiment, but my great personality does not help me when I feel frumpy at a social event.

I think we did a good job because a few people told me that I looked nice which made me feel proud.

LOL @ your new dynamics. I've never known a guy who could give me great advice, unless it was how to look cuter for a date. ;) And I'm glad you got compliments!

Have you tried YouTube for makeup tutorials? It has lots of interesting ones. I'm addicted to hair tutorials. lol

I like the advice that you got and the compliments. I too have never learned to put on makeup. I f I can apply lipstick without getting it on my teeth then I count that as success.

Nicole: Yes, sometimes I fear that I have spilled all the product on my clothes instead of applying to my face.
