Ode to Isa Chandra Moskowitz
We are slowly unpacking both our wedding gifts and our *regular stuff* In an effort to make unpacking more fun, I have tried to incorporate our new kitchen stuff into the meals I have made over the past week. The only two cookbooks which have been unpacked are Veganomicon and Vegan with a Vengenceby Isa Chandra Moskowitz. (Special thanks to Fizzy Thoughtsfor giving me these two gems) Therefore, all the home cooked meals we had this week originated from a recipe found in one of these books! I am not even exaggerating when I tell you that we have been on a tremendous culinary journey. I made the following recipes, all of which were tasty:
- Sauteed Green Beans with Mushrooms (I made it without green beans)
- Stewed Tofu and Potatoes in Miso Gravy
- Southwestern Corn Pudding (although, I put too much cayenne)
- BBQ Tofu (which included making homemade KICK ASS sauce)
- Mashed Potatoes
While some of the recipes took me a long time, I found all of them to be quite flavorful. Partner agreed that they were tasty. Tonight, his sister and her fiance came over for dinner and also gave the food a thumbs up. None of us are vegan, but we are trying to eat less dairy and animal products. In addition to creating tasty and easy to follow recipes, Isa Chandra Moskowitz is also a really entertaining and informative writer. I love her humor and sassiness which comes through the pages. I think that these are the first cookbooks where I am enjoying reading the passages as if it were a novel as much as I am enjoying cooking the food! She has a blog where she posts recipes and adventures. Even though more cookbooks will be unpacked and I will make food from other peeps, I am thankful that she kept me well fed, inspired, and entertained at least for the past week.
