The Sunday Salon #32: Three Cups of Tea

The Sunday Salon.com

I am very slow with completing books during this LAST year of law school while I am in the midst of wedding planning and daydreaming about making my life in a new state and figuring out how to find and create my dream job, so I thought that it would be fun to have a progress report of my reading. This is an online reading group where all the participants set aside time to read every Sunday and blog about the experience.

During my long plane ride to and from Maryland for Thanksgiving, I started and finished reading Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.   I am looking forward to discussing this book during a book club meeting next week.  When I heard about the book, I was skeptical about whether or not I would like it.  However, I found myself very engaged throughout the book and moved at several pieces.   Later on this week, I will post a more thorough review.  For now, I need to pause my regular blogging to get through my upcoming exams!

I've enjoyred reading this book trememdously and was really inspired by what Greg did in helping built schools one after another to help the Afgan girls. What he's doing requires not just a lot of determination and passion, but also courage in braving dangers and hardships esp in a forbidden terrain and landscapes with totally different cultures. Wouldn't have know about his doings if not for this book. There seems to be no media coverage about what he does.

Sal: I think that there is limited media coverage of his work, but it is certainly not pervasive. I also agree that he has a lot of good qualities which make it possible for him to do his work. I wanted to know more about how his family copes with his long absenses.
