Weekly Geeks #12

I have been so sporadic in my participation. I am going to try to do better.

The rules for this week:

1. In your blog, list any books you’ve read but haven’t reviewed yet. If you’re all caught up on reviews, maybe you could try this with whatever book(s) you finish this week.
2. Ask your readers to ask you questions about any of the books they want. In your comments, not in their blogs. Most likely, people who will ask you questions will be people who have read one of the books or know something about it because they want to read it.
3. Later, take whichever questions you like from your comments and use them in a post about each book. I’ll probably turn mine into a sort of interview-review. Link to each blogger next to that blogger’s question(s).
4. Visit other Weekly Geeks and ask them some questions!

I am actually doing pretty well on book reviews; although, I have one pending.  I am also going to put in the name of the book I am currently reading.  Please ask me questions about the following two books:
Maps by Nuruddin Farah.

Love in the time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Colombia)

I look forward to your questions.

Maps? I haven't heard of this one. Is it for your world challenge? Generic questions: what genre is it? did you like it?

I admit that Love in the Time of Cholera is a book that has intimidated me due to length. Have you seen the movie? How does it compare? if you haven't seen movie, are you looking forward to it? Doesn't this star Javier Bardem? Do you like him as an actor? What's your favorite movie with him in it?

Hi--

I've yet to read Love in the Time of Cholera, but I am interested in it and have read 100 Years of Solitude. How does "Cholera" compare in terms of Magical Realism? Are they similar styles, or is "Cholera" a much more "realistic" book?

For either book: what is the significance of the title?

Thank you so much Birdlashes and Lisa!

Although you haven't reviewed it yet, I'm aware that you really liked Maps. Can you pinpoint what exactly was so gripping or engaging about this book?

I hear that the author of Maps has a very unique and powerful writing style. How would you describe it? Does it compare to any other authors you know?

I am not familiar with this author: Nuruddin Farah. What can you tell me about him (or her), please?

Cheers!

How are you liking Love in the Time of Cholera so far? It was one of my favorite books of all time. Have you read anything else by Marquez before? I could never get into 100 Years of Solitude, I'm sorry to say!

Thanks for the question Karen.
