Orbis Terrarum 2009

orbis_terrarum_mapI’m very glad that the Orbis Terrarum challenge is back, this time with its own blog! While the premise remains the same-travelling through lit-the rules have changed a little. It runs ten months this year (March-Dec.) and requires readers to choose ten books by ten different authors from ten different countries.  Last year, I made a list that changed a lot.  This year, I am not going to make a list before hand and see where my reading takes me!  Stay tuned for some spontaneous and fun travels.

  1. Who by Fireby Diana Spechler (United States).  For my first book, I did not travel very far from home.  You can find my review here.
  2. White Tigerby Aravind Adiga(India, his country of birth).  I finished this book in July 2009 while in Thailand.  You can find my review here.
  3. They Plotted Revenge Against America by Abe F. March (Germany, he was born in the US but currently resides in Germany).  I finished the book in May 2009.  You can find my review here.
  4. Ali and Nino by Kurban Said (Azerbaijan, it is at the crossroads of Wesetern Asia and Eastern Europe). I finished the book in April 2009.  You can find my review here.
  5. Eva Luna by Isabel Allende (Chili).  I finished the book on the train in September 2009.  You can find my review here.
  6. Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon (England) I finished the book while in bed in November 2009.  You can find my review here.
  7. People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks (Australia) I finished the book for the December book club at the public library.  You can find my review here.
  8. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (Dominican Republic)  I finished the book in December for the Partners of Professors book club.  You can find my review here.
  9. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson (Sweden) I finished the book in January 2010 for the Partners of Professors book club.  Even though the challenge is over, I still want to finish. You can read my review here.
  10. Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood (Canada) I finished the book in February 2010. I am two months late with completing the challenge, but I am glad that I finally did it! You can find my review here.
