Education of a Woman-- In Process

For the March BBC meeting, we read Education of a Woman: The Life of Gloria Steniem by Carolyn G. Heilbrun. It is a biography of Steiniem which starts from her youth and goes through her transformation and career.  I am enjoying this book. I was surprised at how much I related to the part of the book where she speaks about getting pressure to marry and to settle down.

I Know This Much is True-- Finished

For the BBC, I still have not finished last month's selection called I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb.  It is an epic tale of twin brothers-- one who has a mental disorder and the other who is trying to cope.  The character are so real to me and I miss them as I try to finish up other items.  As I am reading, I think that I would like to hear Gaby, Corrie, and PD's (from the BBC) perspective.

Last Thursday, I finished reading this treasure and cried on the shuttle. It was certainly an epic but full and rich. There was hope and resolution.  The ending went a bit too fast, but I guess there has to be a wrap up somewhere. This got me excited about reading his other work.

I would HIGHLY recommend this!

1984-- Finished

Today after work, I am having my work book club meeting.  The book for this month was the incredible 1984 by George Orwell. If you have not read it, I HIGHLY recommend it especially because it is so eerily to the way things are headed now in our current political climate.

I am such a big nerd that I finished reading the appendix this weekend which included an explanation of the vocabulary in the book and then commentary by a historian.  Also now that I was more in tune to hearing references to this book in everyday conversation, I felt smarter when I heard them.  The book is also a good reminder of the need for awareness and motivation that our aactions do make a difference.
