I am very slow with completing books this semester, so I thought that it would be fun to have a progress report of my reading.  This is an online reading group where all the participants set aside time to read every Sunday and blog about the experience. I started last week.

Since I am on spring break, I decided to start a new book.  Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant is a collection of essays and short stories about eating alone either at home or out in public.  I had a very long plane ride from Seattle to Durham.  This book made it go by very quickly.  Today, I stretched out on a couch in the afternoon sun and read two more essays.  One was about a year of cooking spaghetti and the other was about trying to find a regular lunch spot in New York.   This book has also provided good conversation as I reminisced with Corrie and Joe last night over dinner what we would eat "back in the day."  Tonight, it came up again with Beth and E-dawg.  As I have learned about the benefits of eating fresh food and tried cooking more, I have gotten away from eating things out of a box.  Once in awhile those cravings come back and I laugh at myself.  One of the things which impress me about the essays I have read (so far) is how none of the authors have written about eating things that come out of box like Kraft, Ramon Noodles, etc.  Maybe that will be addressed in later chapters.
