Persuasion (1995 version)

How did I end up watching this movie?

I decided to join the Everything Austen challenge for which I committed to watching six Austen themed movies.  This was my third selection.

Which character did I like best in the movie?

Wentworth because I was drawn to his silent intensity.  Although, I wanted him to make a move sooner.

What was my favorite quote from the movie?

The exact quote is escaping me, but I really loved Ann's description of what makes good company. She talks of clever people who engage in interesting conversation.

What will stick with me from the movie?

It is possible for someone who appears plain to others to find love with an amazing person.

If I could change one thing about the movie, what would it be?

I wanted to have more of the background of the relationship between the characters which was more developed in the book.

Who would enjoy this movie?

Jane Austen fans.

Which screen is this movie best viewed on?

Either one.

Other comments?

During the last couple scenes, the heat between Ann and Frederick was powerful.  When they touched hands, I felt so excited.

Jane Austen Book Club

How did I end up watching this movie?

I decided to join the Everything Austen challenge for which I committed to watching six Austen themed movies.  This was my second selection.

Which character did I like best in the movie?

Grigg because I thought that he was so brave to join a book club of all women and then to make a comparison of the characters to a theme in Star Wars.

What was my favorite quote from the movie?

I cannot remember the exact quote but it is the one I referenced above where Grigg compares the relationship between two characters in one of Austen's novels to those in Star Wars.

What will stick with me from the movie?

Book clubs can be a way to discover yourself.

If I could change one thing about the movie, what would it be?

Less of a perfect ending.  It made for a happy ending, but it did not stay true to the book.

Who would enjoy this movie?

Jane Austen fans.

Which screen is this movie best viewed on?

Either one.

Other comments?

I loved the way the movie made reading classic novels appealing and accessible. Also, it was nice to revisit the story again; I had read the book years ago (before I had a blog) and I remember not caring for it too much.  However, the movie made me appreciate the story much more.

Lost in Austen

How did I end up watching this movie?

I decided to join the Everything Austen challenge for which I committed to watching six Austen themed movies.  I had a slow start, but I am excited to get rolling.

Which character did I like best in the movie?

Amanda, the main character, with the nostalgia for the past and her awareness of the present. I loved her struggle with trying to stay true to the plot of a novel and her attraction for Darcy.

What was my favorite quote from the movie?

Oh my goodness, at a sad moment in the movie, Darcy says, "I cannot marry you because you are not a maid." << It brought home the ideal (and in my opinion) misplaced notion that women should be pure.

What will stick with me from the movie?

How the plots of our lives are not written in some script that cannot be changed.

If I could change one thing about the movie, what would it be?

I wanted more information about how Elizabeth Bennett was faring in modern day New York

Who would enjoy this movie?

Jane Austen fans.

Which screen is this movie best viewed on?

Either one.

Other comments?

I was glad that I joined the challenge because otherwise I would have missed out on a great movie.

Quantum of Solace

I really wanted to enjoy this movie. However, I found it to be pretty predictable and at various times I felt like I was watching a car or cell phone commerical. On the plus side, I think I amused my friend Dude with my snarky comments during the movie. I was polite enough to whisper softly so as to not disturb people sitting nearby.
